smoggy7 Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 hi guys well masked ive been to the dealer and the guy there said there is no air lock in the system , but because the car was quite hot he couldnt tell me if the heater is kicking in so back tonight to leave it overnight so he can check it from cold , would it be better if i could get hold of the glow plug myself and fit it or let them sort it as they are going to say that it maybe that is what it is as everything else is ok so he says, i told him the car was taking ages to warm up from cold and explained the problem but until it gets cold he cant say for sure what it is ,this was the best i phoned another ford for the glow plug and told me it wasnt sold as a seperate part i would have to buy the whole unit at Quote
marinabrid Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 if you have bridged the temp sensor on the wiper linkage and still no go and fuses etc then get a glowplug. ive sent you an email. its the sensible thing to do to start with. follow the excellent instructiuons posted on here and if that dont work it may need resetting or maybe not after that its more indepth work on it. maybe even cheaper to buy a new unit. but also first CHECK THE WIRES ON TO THE METERING PUMP, i spent 4 hours changing a plug and then found the wire off. the soddin plug was ok ! dave_m Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 whats needed is for the moderators(if there are any) to post a Sticky subject which stays at the top of the Section entitled "AUX HEATER" with a description "clouds of smoke, jet engine noise, no or poor heater output then hopefully it will point people in the right direction and prevent the same questions being asked time after time. Quote
greg_68 Posted February 8, 2006 Report Posted February 8, 2006 oh don't do that it's the only bit of having a V6 that makes it worthwhile. Quote

smoggy7 Posted February 9, 2006 Author Report Posted February 9, 2006 hi guys, ok had a phone call from fords today and the fault lies between the pump at the rear of the car which someone has called the metering pump and the switch that controls it, so the technition said, so it either being an electrical fault or the pump has actually died on me now for the hard part as this wasnt caused by them i may end up with the final bill , but i am going to phone my warranty people tomorrow to see if they can help out with this , so until tomorrow morning they will let me know which one it is , if its the pump do someone have an idea on the price for one of these will get back to you with the outcome many thanks guys smogggy Quote
smoggy7 Posted February 9, 2006 Author Report Posted February 9, 2006 hello, whats the worst that can happen if this pump doesnt work and what does this pump actually do, i think i have an idea on it as i have read for hours on these wonderfull forums that you guys have left to try and educate even the useless car minded people like me lol but it depends on fords now and what they find out what has happened so fingers crossed eh guys speal laters smoggy Quote
Jeff115 Posted February 9, 2006 Report Posted February 9, 2006 hello, whats the worst that can happen if this pump doesnt work and what does this pump actually do, Smoggy, The metering pump supplies a specific amount of diesel to the booster heater. If it's not working then the booster will not work - the inop. pump will cause an open or short circuit fault code in the cars ECU which controls the booster heater operation. It's not critical that the booster heater is not working (many members have had faults with the booster). However as the booster heater supplements engine and cabin warm up by directly heating the coolant when temperature outside is less than 10 degrees, it will be better for your engine and for you to get it fixed :) ATB with your dealer,Jeff. Maggot Posted February 11, 2006 Report Posted February 11, 2006 Having been reading with interest most of the postings on this I am trying to locate one with the part number for a new glo-plug & bits for the heater on my Shazza.I am getting tired of being told my car is on fire. The heater works, comes on & off as required but quite often over the past couple of months whenever I stop moving I disappear in a fog bank of my own making.I therefore need the part no.s for Glo-Plug & Gasket set as I will probably need to dismantle & de-gunk the unit (I will buy the wife new toothbrush afterwards).Any advice &/or assistance eagerly accepted.
